Delta is one of the sunniest corners of British Columbia, located in the southwest of the province. In the north it is washed by the Fraser River, in the south it borders on the US and washed by Boundary Bay, its western side is washed by Georgia Strait, end in the east it neighbours upon Surrey municipality. The name of Delta is given to the character of areas it occupies: it is really a delta formed by the slits of the Fraser River. Only one side of Delta is bordered with land, while other three are washed by water bodies. The most developed economy spheres here were fishing and farming.

Historically the territory of Delta hosted three separated communities of Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta. Ladner is a fishing village neat the Fraser River dikes. The modern village consists of numerous restored building that reflects the 19th century style. North Delta places Burn’s Bog conservation area of 10 000 acres. Butn’s Bog is a favourite place of rest and breeding for more than 200 kinds of birds. Sunny Tsawwassen is an important ferry terminal for transporting goods to and from the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. The area of Delta is extremely fertile and rich for waterfowl. The first inhabitants, the Coast Salish tribes, used its resources for agriculture, hunting and fishing for many centuries.

First Europeans who found these lands were Hudson's Bay Company’s workers and gold prospectors who searched for new deposits during the Gold Rush. Thomas and William Ladner, who first came to British Columbia in 1858 for developing the Cariboo gold mine, noticed the lush areas ideal for living and came here again in 1868 to arrange a settlement on 160-acre territory near the Chilukhtan Slough. This is how the flourishing settlement was founded on the southern Fraser River’s bank. Besides incredibly fertile lands, the Fraser Delta is full of wildlife treasures. It is internationally important habitat of rare birds and animals. Boundary Bay is a major stop for bird flocks that migrate along the Pacific Flyway used by over 1.5 million of birds from countries all over the world every year.

Warm winters with no frost and rank alluvial soils have turned the Delta into the most important Canadian agricultural centers. The today’s population of Delta is about 103 000. It is located only about 17 miles from Vancouver (to the southeast of it) and 15 miles north from the US border post situated in Peace Arch/Douglas. Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal To find out more about the local history the Delta Museum and Archives always offers a huge collection of artefacts of older times. Situated at one hundred years old Tudor-style building, the museum hosts a range of rooms dedicated to different eras like Victorian or Edwardian. All comers can dive into the atmosphere of that times, see the scenes and feel the sounds of old streets, see the first farming and fishing tools and scenes from the first settlers’ everyday life.
